Trade guide for sign companies & shopfitters

Halo-lit vs face-lit letters.

Short answer: choose face-lit letters when the sign must read from a distance and after dark, and halo-lit letters when you want a quieter, premium look on a wall people see up close. Face-lit letters glow through an acrylic face; halo-lit letters have a solid metal face and light the wall behind. We make both to your drawing for UK sign companies.

How it is builtMetal returns with a translucent acrylic face. LEDs inside light the face. Rim and return letters have a trim around the face; rimless letters do not.A solid metal face and returns. The LEDs face backwards and the letter stands off the wall, so the light spills out behind it.
Light effectThe whole face glows, so the letter itself is the light. The face stays solid and dark; a soft halo shows on the wall around each letter.
Viewing distanceReads well from further away and after dark, for example from across a street.Suits a quieter look, often seen at closer range, such as a reception wall or an entrance at street level.

Halo-lit vs face-lit questions

Which is better, halo-lit or face-lit letters?

Neither is better in general. Face-lit letters glow through their acrylic face and read from further away, so they suit shopfronts and high streets. Halo-lit letters keep a solid metal face and light the wall behind, which suits hotels, offices and premium retail. Choose by viewing distance, the wall and the look your client wants.

Can halo-lit letters go on any wall?

They need a solid wall or panel behind them for the light to show on, and the wall colour and finish change how the halo looks. Put the wall finish and the stand-off from the wall on your drawing, and we show the letters on your client’s wall in the 3D mockup.

What should I specify for each type?

For face-lit letters: face colour, return material and depth, rim and return or rimless, RAL colour, fixing method and power supply location. For halo-lit letters: metal and finish, stand-off from the wall, wall colour, fixing method and power supply location. Each item is confirmed with you before production; the look is shown on your free 3D mockup.

Do you make both types?

Yes. We make rim and return, rimless and halo-lit letters to your drawing at our Sultanpur workshop, with no minimum order. Samples are available at a cost if you want to compare the two side by side before a larger order.

How long do they take to reach the UK?

We dispatch 7–8 days after drawing approval, then delivery takes about 3 days express or 6–8 days standard: roughly 10–16 days door to door. Face-lit and halo-lit letters follow the same timing.
